David Hicken: Bio

Born in Shropshire England, David Hicken moved to the United States when he was seventeen, to study at Peabody Conservatory of Music.

Trained as a classical pianist since the age of three, he also mastered the organ and clarinet at a young age. He went on to give solo performances at venues such as Westminster Cathedral, St. Paul's Cathedral, and St. George's Chapel Windsor Castle, and has also appeared as featured soloist with the Oxford Symphony Orchestra and the Westchester Symphony Orchestra.

David signed his first record contract at the age of eighteen, and recorded CDs for President Records, Prestige Records, Delta Music and Enchanting Music.

He has worked with rock stars such as Patrick Moraz ("Yes" and "Moody Blues"), and has performed at the homes of producer David Foster and actress/singer, Cher. He has taught the children of Hollywood celebrities including composer James Horner (Titanic and Avatar), composer Snuffy Walden (The West Wing) and actors A. Martinez, Michael Ontkean and Julie Carmen.

After recording two New Age and two Classical Organ CDs, David decided to make recordings of solo piano music. He liked the idea of having a theme, and after visiting Buddhist and Hindu temples in Sri Lanka, the concept for "Goddess" was born. The CD features twelve tracks, each representing a different Goddess. The success of "Goddess" led to another two concept CDs, "Angels" and "Faeries". All three recordings have received rave reviews from music critics worldwide, and the CDs and sheet music sell in dozens of countries.

In addition to composing, recording and performing, David has a busy teaching studio, and also works as an organist and choir director.

An avid scuba diver (and certified master instructor), David has been diving in exotic locations such as the Cayman Islands, Belize, Mexico, Tahiti, Thailand, Sri Lanka, California, as well as Hawaii.

After living in Asia, and both coasts of the United States, David now lives with his wife and daughter in the famous surfing town of Haleiwa, on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii. He composes and records in his studio which overlooks the ocean and mountains, and in his free time, he can be seen cycling around the mountains and shorelines of his beloved North Shore.
